Social conflict,the relevance!

Social conflict theory is a Marxist-based social theory which argues that individuals and groups (social classes) within society have differing amounts of material and non-material resources (the wealthy vs. the poor) and that the more powerful groups use their power in order to exploit groups with less power.
Conflict theory states that the society or organization functions so that each individual participant and its groups struggle to maximize their benefits, which inevitably contributes to social changesuch as changes in politicsand revolutions.

The two methods by which this exploitation is done are through brute force and economics
Social conflict theorists argue that money is the mechanism which creates social disorder.
The theory further states that society is created from ongoing social conflict between various groups.
Marxism argues that human history is all about this conflict, a result of the strong-rich exploiting the poor-weak. From such a perspective, money is made through the exploitation of the worker. Thus, the social conflict theory states that groups within a capitalist society tend to interact in a destructive way, that allows no mutual benefit and little cooperation
The solution Marxism proposes to this problem is that of an armed, violent revolution and a radical change of the culture, customs and values of a society (in the manner of Mao's Cultural Revolution)

Coser argues that conflict helps to sharpen apetite for action. Men begin to think quite sharply in response to a conflict or threat inordr to find a way out of it.
Secondly, men demonstrate remarkable solidarity when exposed to external threats of danger, like a biological system faced with extinction.
Thirdly, social conflicts help agroup to redifine it's goals and group boundaries through a screening process.
Fourthly, for our purporse, social conflict generates creativity and innovativeness thus a crucial determinant of social change and development.
